Let smaller number be x

And, larger number be y

Then, according to question

y = x + 16 .…1

x + y = 120 .…2

Using Substitution method:

Putting value of y in equation 2, we get

x + x + 16 = 120

2x + 16 = 120

2x = 120 - 16

2x = 104

x = 104/2

x = 52

Now, putting value of x in equation 1

y = 52 + 16

y = 68
