Nina is selling three types of energy bars at a market stall. She bought 60 Enerbars at 40p per bar and 120 Grainbars at 50p per bar from her normal supplier. She was also given 60 Amazebars as a promotion from a new supplier. Nina sells the bars for £2.60 and manages to sell all the Enerbars and Grainbars but only some Amazebars. She makes a profit of £475. How many bars did she sell?

Given :

Cost price of Enebars = 40p per bar

Cost price of Grainbars = 40p per bar

Cost price of 60 Amzebars = 0

Total cost of Enebars = 60 × 40p

= 2400 or £24

Total cost of Grainbars = 120 × 50

= 6000 or £60

So, total cost price = £(24 + 60)

= £84

Now, selling price of each bar = £2.60

According to question, Nina sold all the Enebars and Grainbars. So,

Selling price of Enebars and Grainbars = 180 × 2.60

=£468

Let the number of Amazebars sold be x

Then,

475 = 468 - 84 + 2.60x

[ profit = Selling price - cost price]

475 = 384 + 2.60x

2.60x = 475 - 384

2.60x = 91

x = 91/2.60

x = 35

Hence, number of Amazebars sold is 35
