All living organisms share common characteristics to be defined as ‘living’. Their characteristics are as follows; 
1. Able to reproduce - Living organisms can reproduce offspring either by sexual or asexual method.
2. Growth and development- Living organisms can progressively increase their sizes and are capable of development as the organism grows.
3. Can process energy- Living organisms can process and absorb energy for example plants; they process the energy from the sun and uses it to produce food.
 4. Capable of homeostasis - Living organisms can maintain stability in the body or regulate body temperature suitable for survival.
5. Capable of responding to stimuli - Living organisms are irritable. They react to their environment depending on what changed or stimulus.
