In multiplying binomials, simply use the FOIL method, it is a technique for distributing two binomials.  FOIL stand for First, Outer, Inner, Last. First means multiply the terms which occur first in each binomial expression. Then Outer means multiply the outermost terms in the product in each binomial expression.

Given the equation: (x+5)(3x-1)

(x)(3x) = 3x^2

(x)(-1) = -x

(5)(3x)=15x

(5)(-1)=-5

(x+5)(3x-1) = 3x^2 - x + 15x - 5

=3x^2 + 14x -5
