Many Chinese were not happy about the increasing Western influence due to the fact, that this might affect their culture as well, we all know that the Chinese people have a very well-nourished culture which can be traced to the roots of ancient Chinese civilizations. Hence, it is a threat not only to the Chinese people but as well as their culture if Western influence takes over them.
