Lena will rent a car for the weekend. She can chose one of two plans. The first plan has an initial fee of $49.00 and costs and additional $0.15 per mile driven. The second plan has an initial fee of $40.00 and cost an additional $0.17 per mile driven. For what amount of driving do the two plans costs the same? What is the cost when the two plans costs the same?

Initial fee of first plan = $49

Additional cost per mile = $0.15

Initial fee of 2nd plan = $40

Additional per mile = 0.17

Now, let the number of miles be x

Then,

49 + 0.15x = 40 + 0.17x

0.17x - 0.15x = 49 - 40

0.02x = 9

x = 9/0.02

x = 450

Now, cost = 49 + 0.15(450)

= $(49 + 67.5)

= $116.5

Hence, for distance of 450 miles two plans cost the same and the cost is $116.5
