Let the number of dimes be x

And, number of quarters be y

Then, x + y = 38         …1

0.10x + 0.25y = 5.75

Multiplying by 100

10x + 25y = 575         …2

Now, Multiplying equation 1 by 10

10x + 10y = 380          …3

Subtracting 3 from 2, we get

10x + 25y - 10x - 10y = 575 - 380

15y = 195

y = 195/15

y = 13

Now, putting value of y in equation 1

x + 13  = 38

x = 38 - 13

x = 25

Hence, there are 25 dimes and 13 quarters.
