Okay so we know that Joel made some muffins and for us that is what we call the whole thing. And he gave away ¼ and 3/8
In order to find out what is left, we simply add what he gave away and we remove it from the whole amount
¼+3/8=2/8+3/8=5/8 is given away from the whole
To find out whats left, from 1=8/8 we divide 5/8
since they have the same denominator, we can substract the numerators.
8/8-5/8=3/8 is left
