The Bald Eagle Protection Act amended in 1940, maintains and provides for the protection of bald eagles, in order to protect them from illegal possession, trade and commerce. This law should be strictly followed at any time, place or manner. The law prohibits anyone from the taking, or the acquisition of bald eagles, dead or alive, where it is its nest, eggs and or any part of it. In this case, the term “take” may be broadly define by several terms such as “shoot, poison, capture, kill or even disturb.” There are various penalties for the violation of this law, ranging from being fined by $100,000, to $200,000 for organizations, and to imprisonment for any offense. The primary purpose of this law is to mitigate the impact of human activity against bald eagles, as they are an important part of the ecosystem. Besides the bald eagle, the Bald Eagle Protection Act also encompasses other species of eagles such as the gold eagle.
