If you double a number and then add 24 you get 2/7 of the original number. If you let x represent the original number it can be represented by the equation 2x + 24 = 2/7x. What is the original number?

We have

2x + 24 = 2/7x

Where, x = original number

Subtracting both sides by 2/7x

2x - 2/7x + 24 = 2/7x - 2/7x

(14x - 2x)/7 + 24 = 0

Transposing 24 to other side, we ger

12x/7 = - 24

x = -24 × 7/12

x = -2 × 7

x = - 14

Hence, the original number is -14.
