Given the functions of f(x) and g(x)

f(x) = 5x + 3

g(x) = x- 4

What if f(x) + g(x)?

Solution:

= f(x) + g(x)

= (5x+3) + (x-4)

= 5x + 3 + x - 4

= 6x - 1

Transpose -1 in the other side of the equation. Note that in transposing a number, the sign changes

6x = 1

Divide both side by 6 in order to get the value of x.

x = 1/6
