Lets try and find out the number of boys in the building. We do that by substracting 240 from 420.

420-240=180 boys.

Lets try and divide the number of boys to the number of girls and simplify the fraction into a non dividable fraction.

The actual ratio is 180:240 but we need to simplify it.

In order to simplify we need to find the biggest common factor of 180 and 240.

Which in our case is 60.

180/60=3

240/60=4

So the ratio boys to girls is 3:4.
