In order to solve a square root property we are often using the square root symbol, for example:

√36 = 6

√49 = 7

Another trick to solve a square root without using any radical sign is by raising the number by ½.

(36)^½ = 6

(49)^½ = 7

It is a technique in order not to get confused in solving radical expressions. This also applies for cube, fourth root and so on, by raising the number to 1 over its degree. ⅓ for cube, ¼ for fourth root, 1/5 for fifth root and so on.
