The attacks resulted in the deaths of 2,977 people. This figure includes the passengers and crew aboard the four hijacked airplanes, the individuals working in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, as well as the first responders who rushed to the scenes of the attacks. It does not include the 19 terrorists who hijacked the planes.
