In order to find the slope of any given points use the formula for slope denoted as:

m = change in y / change in x

m = ( y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)

In order to fully understand the concept, refer to the example below.

Example:

Determine the slope of the line from the given points ( -1, - 4) (3, 4)

x1 = -1

x2 = 3

y1 = -4

y2 = 4

m = ( y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)

m = ( 4 - (-4)) / (3 - (-1))

m = ( 4 + 4 ) / (3 +1 )

m = 8/ 4

m = 2

Formula : Slope = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)

The slope of a line characterizes the direction of a line. To find the slope, we have to  divide the difference of the y-coordinates of 2 points on a line by the difference of the  y-coordinates of those same 2 points.
