Given:

f(x) = 1.25(38 − x)

Find the inverse of the function: f^-1(x)

Solution:

Distribute first 1.25 on each value.

f(x) = 47.5 - 1.25x

To solve for the inverse of a function, we change x with y then we solve for x.

y =  47.5 - 1.25x

x = 47.5 - 1.25y

Transpose x and -1.25 y on their opposite sides. It must be taken to note that when transposing a number, the sign changes.

1.25y = 47.5 - x

Divide both sides by 1.25 in order to determine the inverse function

y = (47.5 - x) / 1.25

f^-1(x) = 38 - x/1.25
