In order to find the area of a trapezoid we refer to the formula,

A =( (a + b) / 2)h

a = upper base

b = lower base

h = height

Example:

Find the area of the trapezoid with an upper base of 2cm, lower base of 8 cm and a height of 5 cm.

Substitute the given values to the formula for the area of the trapezoid.

A = ( ( 2 + 8)/ 2 ) 5

A = (10/2cm)5cm

A = (5cm)(5cm)

A = 25cm^2
