If 'efficient' refers to digesting food, people can efficiently digest animal products than plant products. Human digestive system does not contain enzymes called cellulase that can breakdown cellulose. Protein base products like meat of animals can be easily digested with the help of enzyme called protease. But if the basis of efficiency is energy, it is more efficient to eat plants than animal products because less energy that is available in plants is wasted based on the food energy pyramid.
