Homeostasis is the tendency of the body to maintain internal stability. For example, during a sunny day, the body feels warm, and as a homeostatic mechanism, the sweat glands release sweat in order to cool the body. This also applies during a cold day, the body shivers as a mechanism to produce thermal energy in order for the body to feel warm. The scope of the homeostatic mechanism does not only include the temperature of the body, but almost all aspects, such as circulation, respiration, etc. in order to make the body function properly. If homeostasis of the body is not maintained, then the person will die.
