Let the number of child tickets be x

And, number of adults tickets be y

So, according to question

x + y = 163 ….1

5.50x + 8.70y = 1206.90 ….2

Now, from equation 1

y = 163 - x ….3

now, putting value of x in equation 2, we get

5.50x + 8.70(163-x) = 1206.90

5.50 + 1481.1 - 8.70x = 1206.90

-3.20x = 1206.90 - 1481.1

-3.20x = -211.2

x = -211.2/-3.20

x = 66

Thus, number of child tickets sold were 66.
