given that:- you walk 9 miles on track, then you jog at three times your walking speed for another 9 miles

 now, let the walking speed  = x and jogging speed =3x

find:- if the total time spent walking and jogging is 4 hours, find the walking and jogging rates=?

now, we now that formula of distance=time*speed

from here, time=distance/speed

let time rate taken for walking and jogging is t  then,

time (t)=  9/x (distance/time)  ……….equation 1     [formula applied for walking on tack]

time (t)=9/3x =3/x     ………..equation 2       [formula applied for jogging]

now, total time taking for jogging and waking is 4 hours

t=9/x+3/x

4=12/x

4x=12

x=12/4

x=3

now, put this value in equation 1 => t=9/x

t=9/3

t(walking rate)=3hour

now, put this value in equation 2 => t=9/3x

t=9/3*3

t=9*9

t(jogging rate)=1 hour
