Approximately how long did the Islamic Empire maintain its rule?

The Islamic Empire, also known as the Islamic Caliphate, had a period of rule that spanned approximately 600 years. This phase of Islamic governance began effectively with the establishment of the Rashidun Caliphate in 632 CE, immediately after the death of the Prophet Muhammad. The Rashidun Caliphate was succeeded by the Umayyad Caliphate in 661 CE, which then led to the rise of the Abbasid Caliphate in 750 CE. Although the power and territories of the Islamic Caliphate changed hands over the centuries, the Abbasid Caliphate remained influential until the Mongol sack of Baghdad in 1258 CE. However, remnants of the Abbasid Caliphate persisted in the Mamluk Sultanate of Cairo until the Ottoman Empire took control in 1517 CE. Still, the notion of an Islamic empire persisted in different forms with the Ottoman Empire itself, which lasted until the early 20th century, specifically until 1922 when the Ottoman Sultanate was abolished.
