According to the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, our "psychic inheritance" is referred to as the collective unconscious. Jung believed that the collective unconscious is a part of the unconscious mind that is shared among beings of the same species and that it consists of pre-existing forms, the archetypes, which can only become conscious secondarily and which give definite form to certain psychic contents.
