Answer: You can work out the total force on the 50 kg load using F=ma.

But unless the floor is perfectly smooth there will be a friction force acting in the opposite direction. That needs to be added to the total force to get the force the student has to apply.

F=ma = 50×1.5 = 75 Newton .
