We know that the perimeter of a rectangle is 2W + 2L where W is width and L is length.

In our case since the perimeter is 50, we can express it like this:

2W+2L=50

In order to express it in terms of L, we can put the variables on one side and the numbers on the other side. Every variable or number that will change sides, will have their sign changed from a + into a - and vice versa.

2L = 50-2W

Divide both sides with 2.

2W/2 = 50-2W/2

W= 50-2W/2
