Let the number of milk chocolates be x
Let the number of dark chocolates be y

Given that the box contains the milk and
dark chocolates in the ratio 3:4.
So x/y =3/ 4     ….(1)

Given that the total number of chocolates
are 42.
So, x+ y= 42 …… (2)
Using (1) and (2),

x+ 4/3 x = 42   {y = (4/3)x by eq.1}
7/3x  = 42
x = 18
y = 4/3 × x

y = 4/3 × 18

y = 24
So,the number of milk chocolates are 18
and the number of dark chocolates are 24.
