Lets try and remove the bracket by multiplying 3 with (x+4).

3(x+4)=3x+12

Now we have:

3x+12-2=2x+1

3x+10=2x+1

Lets put the variables on one side and the numbers on the other side. Every variable or number that will change signs, will have their sign changed from a + into a - and vice versa.

3x-2x=1-10

x=-9
