Let the cost of hot dogs be x

And, cost of soft drinks be y

Then,

6x + 4y = 13        …1

3x + 4y = 8.50    …2

Now, by elimination method

Subtracting equation 2 from 1, we get

6x + 4y - (3x + 4y) = 13 - 8.50

6x + 4y - 3x - 4y = 4.50

3x = 4.50

x = 4.50/3

x = 1.5

Hence, option (D) is correct.
