In order to find the diagonal, lets try and use the Pythagorean Theorem.

The theorem is: a2+b2=c2 where a is one side, b the other side and c the hypotenuse. We can use it in this case because the diagonal creates a right angle inside the rectangle.

a=10 feet

b=18 feet

c=?

Lets use the formula:

a2+b2=c2

10^2+18^2 = c2

100+324=c2

c2=424

Square roots both sides.

sqrt c2 = sqrt 424

c= 20.6 feet
