We have, 12x=54-6y       .…(1)

                -17x=-62-6y     …..(2)

Now, subtracting equation (2) from equation (1), we get

               12x -(-17x) = 54-6y - (-62 - 6y)

               12x + 17x = 54-6y + 62 + 6y

                         29x = 116

Now,dividing both sides by 29, we get

                    29x/29 = 116/29

                             x = 4

Now, putting value of x in equation (1), we get

                 12(4) = 54-6y

                      48 = 54 -6y

                     6y = 54 -48

                     6y = 6

Now,dividing both sides by 6, we get

                  6y/6 = 6/6

                        y = 1

Thus, the value of x and y are 4 and 1 respectively.
